Pursuing Master's Degree in Social Work
Howard University
"Continuing my education is deeply personal and profoundly important to me. As someone who grew up in a low-income neighborhood, I’ve faced many challenges, but I’ve always believed that education is the key to breaking generational cycles and creating new opportunities, not just for myself but for my family and community.
Graduating with my Bachelor of Social Work at 31 was more than just a milestone; it reflected my resilience and unwavering determination. Today, I am proud to maintain a 4.0 GPA in the Master of Social Work program at Howard University. This achievement speaks not only to my academic dedication but also to my commitment to personal growth and social impact.
As a mother to a daughter with developmental disabilities, my journey is deeply rooted in advocacy. She inspires me every day to push for greater awareness and inclusive practices, ensuring that every child, regardless of ability, has the opportunity to thrive.
I am pursuing this path to accomplish my dreams and become a true change agent—someone who advocates for equity, empowers marginalized communities, and helps transform systems from the inside out. Continuing my education is my way of honoring my past, standing firm in my present, and building a better future for those who will come after me."

“To me, a Golden Woman embodies strength, wisdom, and purpose. She is educated, using academic knowledge and life experience to uplift others. She is vibrant, bringing energy, passion, and authenticity to everything she does. Most importantly, she is resilient, rising above challenges and turning them into fuel for growth. As a mother, student, and advocate, I strive to live as a Golden Woman daily, committed to making a meaningful impact in my community and beyond.”
“One of the biggest challenges plaguing young women today is the media's negative portrayal of women and minorities. Social media and mainstream media often present unrealistic beauty standards, success, and behavior, putting immense pressure on young women to conform to these narrow ideals. This portrayal frequently excludes or misrepresents women of color, leading to feelings of inadequacy and a lack of self-worth among young girls who don't see themselves reflected in positive or diverse roles.
To turn this around, we must celebrate diverse role models and create media that reflects the true spectrum of women’s experiences, including their successes, struggles, and unique identities. By highlighting women who defy traditional stereotypes, we can encourage young women to embrace their individuality and believe in their potential.
Personally, I am committed to being a visible, positive role model in my community. Through my work as a social worker, I plan to create spaces where young women can engage with authentic narratives and positive, empowering content. Additionally, by continuing to advocate for inclusive, diverse representation in media, I aim to inspire young women to value themselves beyond external validation and to recognize their inherent worth, regardless of societal pressures.”
