Pursuing Master's Degree in Social Work
Walden University
"As a high school dance teacher in Richmond Public Schools for the past nine years, I’ve had the privilege of working closely with students in an inner-city setting. Over time, I’ve observed a growing need for mental health and emotional support among my students and within the broader community. While my background is in the arts, my passion has gradually shifted toward social work. I feel deeply called to mentor, educate, and walk alongside young people and their families as they navigate challenges and pursue their full potential.
Though I have the heart for this work, I recognize that I lack the formal training and knowledge necessary to provide the level of support my students need. Pursuing a Master of Social Work will give me the tools to make a greater impact—not just in my school, but in the community at large. There have been many moments when, while helping a student through a difficult situation, I’ve felt powerless due to my limited expertise. I never want to feel that way again. Continuing my education is not just a personal goal—it’s a step toward becoming a more effective advocate and guide for others. I want to be well-educated, equipped, and experienced so I can truly serve those who need it most."

“When I think of a Golden Woman, I think of gold itself—bright, valuable, and unchanging in worth. Gold can be molded to meet many needs, and in the same way, a Golden Woman is versatile, useful, and adaptable. She is a woman of high value and strong moral character. Her light shines in every space she enters, not for attention, but to inspire and uplift others.
A Golden Woman is a trailblazer and a leader in her home, her community, and beyond. She gives generously of her time, wisdom, and resources. She prioritizes personal growth through education and experience, understanding that she must also care for herself in order to effectively serve others. She nurtures her health, maintains her finances, strengthens her relationships, and commits to becoming the best version of herself.
To be a Golden Woman is to live with purpose, integrity, and compassion. It is to understand that your value never fades and that through unity and service, you help others recognize their value too.”
“As a high school dance teacher, I have the privilege of working with many young women, and one troubling trend I’ve noticed is the lack of positive role models. Many of my students are heavily influenced by TV shows and social media content that glorify violence, drinking, smoking, sex, and inappropriate behavior or dress. These influences shape their language, behavior, and even their aspirations. Some of my students have gone as far as creating their own teen drama shows that mirror these unhealthy narratives.
What these young women truly need are role models that can affirm their creativity and talents while guiding them toward healthier, more empowering paths. I’ve taken the opportunity to work directly with the students producing these shows to first validate their gifts in entertainment and storytelling, and then challenge them to think differently about how they use their influence. I help them see how they can tell meaningful stories that uplift, inspire, and reflect their full potential.
The talents are already within them—they just need a mindset shift and guidance. It’s my purpose and honor to help others discover their calling and support them as they navigate life’s choices. I strive to be a consistent, positive influence in my students’ lives, especially for those who may not have other women to look up to. Through mentorship, encouragement, and example, I aim to help them see that there is a powerful, purpose-filled life beyond what the media portrays.”
